Running Consultation

Running Consultation & Performance Program

The Running Consultation is a specialist service developed from extensive clinical experience, academic expertise, and a long-standing focus on running performance and injury management. It is designed to provide runners with clear, evidence-based guidance tailored to the specific demands of running.

This service integrates physiotherapy expertise with a detailed understanding of training principles, biomechanics, and performance development, allowing runners to address injury concerns while also optimizing long-term performance.

Clinical & Academic Expertise

The Running Consultation is led by a Chartered Physiotherapist with a specialist background in running, including:

  • An undergraduate degree in Sports Science and Health

  • Extensive physiotherapy experience working with recreational and competitive runners

  • Ongoing doctoral (PhD) research in running performance

Who This Service Is For

The Running Consultation is suitable for:

  • Runners managing short- or long-term injuries

  • Individuals experiencing recurrent or unresolved running-related issues

  • Runners seeking clarity around training structure, load management, and injury prevention

  • Runners aiming to improve performance alongside injury resilience

What the Running Consultation Involves

This is a comprehensive, in-depth consultation that focuses on the runner as a whole, rather than on symptoms alone.

Each appointment includes consideration of:

  • Full running and injury history

  • Previous medical or physiotherapy interventions

  • Current training load, structure, and progression

  • Performance goals and long-term planning

A key priority is achieving an accurate clinical diagnosis and developing a clear, evidence-based management plan.

Management & Performance Planning

Depending on individual needs, the consultation may include:

  • Exercise-based rehabilitation and gym-based strength training

  • Training programme design to optimise load management and progression

  • Performance-focused strength and conditioning strategies

  • Referral to sports medicine consultants or physiological testing services where appropriate

Appointment Structure

  • Duration: 45-minute appointment

  • Includes detailed assessment, discussion, and forward planning

  • Clear outcomes and next steps agreed during the session

Philosophy

The aim of the Running Consultation is to provide runners with clarity, confidence, and direction. Emphasis is placed on education, evidence-led decision-making, and supporting runners to manage both training and rehabilitation effectively over the long term.
